Minnesota State improved to 8-7-1, while the Gophers fell to 12-4. Minnesota State will host Dartmouth in non-conference action this coming weekend, while Minnesota is off until its home-and-home in two weeks with St. Thomas.

Sat: #3 Ohio State 4, #5 Minnesota Duluth 1
Ohio State’s Joye Dunn scored three goals on the weekend as No. 3 Ohio State swept fifth-ranked Minnesota Duluth, picking up a 3-1 win on Friday and a 4-1 win in Duluth on Saturday. The Bulldogs are off until they get back to WCHA action in December at Bemidji State.

Sat: Bemidji State 6, #10 St. Cloud State 5, OT
Payton Remick scored twice in No. 10 St. Cloud State's 4-0 win over Bemidji State at the Sanford Center on Friday. The second game was wild, as Bemidji State built a 4-1 lead, then fell behind 5-4, only to tie it up with 30 seconds left and then win it in overtime 6-5. Hailey Armstrong's seventh of the year was the game-winner. Bemidji State goes on the road next week for a non-conference series at Lindenwood, while St. Cloud State will head to D1 in DC to take on Clarkson and Colgate in the nation's capital.

Fri: #1 Wisconsin 8, #15 St. Thomas 0
Sat: #1 Wisconsin 4, #15 St. Thomas 3, OT
Top-ranked Wisconsin rolled past No. 15 St. Thomas on Friday, shutting out the Tommies 8-0 before the Tommies made the Badgers fight for the final game. Wisconsin ultimately prevailed, with Cassie Hall's overtime game-winner giving the Badgers the 4-3 win. It was the sixth OT game this season for the Tommies, who fell to 8-10 overall. The Tommies are off until the aforementioned home-and-home with the Gophers the first weekend of December.

Division I Men

Fri: Minnesota 3, #5 Penn State 2
Sat: #5 Penn State 2, Minnesota 1
It was a much more believable split this weekend for Minnesota as the Golden Gophers came off last week's split with LIU and promptly split with No. 5 Penn State at 3M Arena at Mariucci. In the opener, three different players scored including Brodie Ziemer's seventh of the year in the Gophers' 3-2 win over the Nittany Lions. On Saturday, Penn State picked up a 2-1 win. The Gophers fell to 6-9-1 on the season and will head to Denver over the Thanksgiving break for the U.S. Hall of Fame Game in Denver against the Pioneers at Ball Arena.

Fri: Bowling Green 3, St. Thomas 2, OT
Sat: St. Thomas 6, Bowling Green 2
St. Thomas ended up taking four out of six points in a weekend split with Bowling Green in the CCHA. Bowling Green won the opener 3-2 in overtime. Game Two saw the Tommies pick up a 6-2 win with Alex Gaffney scoring twice and Carsen Musser stopping 39 shots in net. The Tommies are 5-6-2 and head to the UP next week to face Michigan Tech.

Sat: #14 Minnesota State 3, Michigan Tech 2
No. 14 Minnesota State won its fourth in a row with a pair of CCHA wins at home against Michigan Tech. The Mavericks blanked the Huskies 3-0 in the first game as it was light work for Alex Tracy, who only had to stop 12 shots in the shutout. Game Two saw three different Mavericks score, including Evan Murr's sixth of the season. Minnesota State will head to the UP to face Northern Michigan this coming weekend.

Fri: Bemidji State 7, Northern Michigan 3
Sat: Bemidji State 6, Northern Michigan 2
Bemidji State put up 13 goals in a pair of games to sweep Northern Michigan 7-3 and 6-2, improving to 9-5-2 and sending Northern to its 14th straight loss to open the season. Connor McClennan scored four goals in the opener, while Oliver Peer put up a hat trick in the second game. Bemidji State stands in first place in the CCHA and will have a home-and-home non-conference series with North Dakota this weekend.

Fri: #4 Minnesota Duluth 4, Colorado College 2
Sat: Colorado College 2, #4 Minnesota Duluth 1, OT

No. 4 Minnesota Duluth took four of six points in a weekend split at Robson Arena in Colorado Springs against Colorado College. In Game One, Max Plante netted a hat trick, giving him 13 goals on the year as the Bulldogs beat CC 4-2. On Saturday, Adam Gajon stopped 38 shots but it wasn’t enough as CC picked up the 3-on-3 overtime win 2-1. UMD is a point behind conference leaders Denver and Western Michigan and will head into the Thanksgiving Break 12-3. They’re off until they head to Lawson to take on Western Michigan the first weekend in December.

Fri: Miami 6, St. Cloud State 5, OT
Sat: St. Cloud State 4, Miami 2
St. Cloud State took four out of six points in a weekend split at Miami, dropping the first game 6-5 in overtime in a game where the Huskies tied the game twice after falling behind by two goals. Gavyn Thoreson had his first two-goal game of his career on Friday, while on Saturday, the Huskies built a 3-0 lead and then hung on to beat the RedHawks 4-2. Grant Ahcan scored twice, including an empty netter that iced it with a minute left. The win snapped St. Cloud State's four-game losing streak. The Huskies are off this week and will host North Dakota when conference play kicks back up in December.

Fri: Bemidji State 4, Lake Superior State 1
Sat: Bemidji State 3, Lake Superior State 2, OT Bemidji State improved to 6-4-1 on the season with a weekend sweep of Lake Superior State at the Sanford Center. Four different players scored in Friday's 4-1 win, including Adam Flammang's fourth of the year. Flammang struck again on Saturday, but it was Oliver Peer's sixth of the season that was the dagger as the Beavers prevailed 3-2 in overtime. Bemidji will head to the UP next weekend to take on Michigan Tech in Houghton.

Fri: Minnesota 3, Notre Dame 0
Sat: Minnesota 4, Notre Dame 1
Minnesota got off the schneid with a home sweep of Notre Dame in Big Ten action. Three different Gophers scored on Friday, including Brody Lamb's fifth of the season, a third-period empty netter, while Luca Di Pasquo stopped 19 shots in the 3-0 shutout. On Saturday, Lamb scored again and L.J. Mooney scored his third of the year as the Gophers picked up the 4-1 win. Di Pasquo stopped 33 shots for his second win of the weekend. The Gophers host LIU this coming weekend.

Fri: #7 Minnesota Duluth 4, St. Cloud State 0
Sat: #7 Minnesota Duluth 3, St. Cloud State 2, OT
On the shores of the lake they called Gitche Gumee, Four different players scored as seventh-ranked Minnesota Duluth stayed hot, shutting out rival St. Cloud State at AMSOIL 4-0. Adam Gajan only had to stop 18 shots to pick up the shutout. Game two was tighter as the Bulldogs rallied from a 2-1 deficit to earn the sweep with Max Plante's goal halfway through overtime. UMD will host Omaha next week, while St. Cloud State finishes up its season set on Tuesday at St. Thomas. The Tommies were off this past weekend. They have the Huskies on Tuesday and head to Augustana over the weekend.

Division I Women
Fri: #14 St. Thomas 5, Bemidji State 0
Sat: Bemidji State 2, #14 St. Thomas 1
In the only series of the weekend in the WCHA, Rylee Bartz scored her eighth goal of the season leading five different goal scorers as No. 14 St. Thomas opened up its weekend set at Bemidji State with a 5-0 win over the Beavers. Julia Minotti stopped 17 shots for her second shutout of the year, her first since the season opener. On Saturday, Bemidji State got even, with Izy Fairchild and Shelby Sandberg both scoring their first goals of the year in the 2-1 Bemidji State upset. Bemidji State improves to 3-6-1, while St. Thomas falls to 8-6. Bemidji State is at Minnesota this coming weekend, while St. Thomas hosts Minnesota Duluth.

Division III Men
St. John’s rolled past St. Scholastica 7-1 on Friday, then played to a 4-4 tie Saturday with the Johnnies winning the shootout to take the weekend.
Augsburg and Concordia-Moorhead met in MIAC play, skating to a 1-1 draw Friday with the Cobbers taking the shootout. Augsburg answered Saturday with a 4-1 win on the road.
St. Olaf pulled out a 3-2 overtime win Friday over UW-Eau Claire, then dropped a 3-2 overtime heartbreaker Saturday to UW-Stout.
St. Mary’s beat UW-Stout 4-1 on Friday before falling 4-1 Saturday to #15 UW-Stevens Point in Winona.
#12 UW-Superior edged Gustavus Adolphus 4-3 on Friday and tied St. Olaf 3-3 Saturday, taking the shootout. UW-River Falls picked up a 4-3 overtime win Friday at Hamline and a 3-2 overtime victory Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus.

Division III Women
#15 Hamline picked up a 9-1 win over UW-Superior on Friday afternoon.
St. Kate’s and UW-Stevens Point split their series — the Wildcats won 6-2 Friday before the Pointers answered Saturday with a 3-1 victory.
St. Olaf and UW-Eau Claire also split. The Oles took Friday’s game 2-1, but the Blugolds bounced back Saturday for a 3-2 win.
#1 UW-River Falls beat had a busy run through the Land of 10,000 Skates - they beat St. Benedict 7-1 on Tuesday, #3 Augsburg 4-0 Friday, and St. Scholastica 4-3 Saturday.

College hockey’s been nuts this year and we’ve got ebbs and flows, peaks and valleys. It’s enough to make you pull your hair out - or if you don’t have any, grow in gray. Conference action is here. You already hate the NPI even though it’s not even worth looking at until January at the earliest. Did you learn NOTHING from years of not understanding Pairwise? It’s like you’re Lowell Sun. Anyway, it’s time for  Minnesota’s College Hockey Scoreboard Show, where there’s no breakdowns, no analysis, it’s just the scores!

Division I Men

Thu: #14 Wisconsin 5, #19 Minnesota 2

Sat: #14 Wisconsin 4, #19 Minnesota 0

Christian Fitzgerald scored twice as No. 14 Wisconsin opened up its series with No. 19 Minnesota on Thursday with a 5-2 win. Wisconsin completed the sweep, handing the Gophers their fourth straight loss in a 4-0 win on Saturday night. Quinn Finley and Blake Montgomery scored two goals apiece for Wisconsin. The Gophers fell to 2-7-1 and host Notre Dame this coming weekend.

Fri: Bemidji State 4, Bowling Green 4 (BSU wins SO)

Sat: Bemidji State 3, Bowling Green 2

Bemidji State and Bowling Green skated to a 4-4 tie with the visiting Beavers picking up the extra CCHA point with the shootout win in the first game of the weekend series. Hudson Thornton’s second of the year was the OT game-winner as Bemidji took the weekend series with a 3-2 overtime win in the second game.

Fri: #10 Minnesota Duluth 4, #8 North Dakota 3 OT

Sat: #8 North Dakota 5, #10 Minnesota Duluth 1

Sat: St. Thomas 4, #18 Minnesota State 3 OT

No. 16 Minnesota State scored three third-period goals to run past host St. Thomas 3-1 in St. Paul in the first game of their weekend home-and-home series. Alex Tracy stopped 24 shots in net for the Mavericks. Nathan Pilling’s fourth of the year came in overtime and gave St. Thomas a win in Mankato to split the home-and-home series. St. Thomas is off this weekend, while Minnesota State will host Bowling Green.

Fri: #3 Western Michigan 6, St. Cloud State 5

Sat: St. Cloud State 5, #3 Western Michigan 1

Zack Bookman’s power-play goal with just over four minutes left was the game-winner as third-ranked Western Michigan took the first game of the weekend NCHC series in a 6-5 win at St. Cloud State. Liam Valente scored twice for the Broncos. Patriks Berzins made 32 saves and Jack Reimann had his first career multi-goal game as St. Cloud State earned the weekend split with what some could dub an eye-opening 5-1 win to close out the series. Austin Burnevik scored in both games, giving him 10 goals on the season and extending his point streak to 11 games in a row, dating back to last season. St. Cloud State heads to AMSOIL this coming weekend to face rival Minnesota Duluth.

Division I Women

Fri: Minnesota State 2, Bemidji State 2 (MSU wins SO)

Sat: Minnesota State 2, Bemidji State 0

Minnesota State picked up the extra WCHA point, winning the shootout in Friday’s opener as the Mavericks and the Beavers skated to a 2-2 tie. In Game Two, Minnesota State took all the points as Kamryn Van Batavia and Mercury Bischoff scored for the host Mavericks, who improved to 6-5-1. Bemidji State will host St. Thomas this weekend, while Minnesota State is at Ohio State.

Fri: #3 Minnesota 5, #1 Wisconsin 1

Sat: #1 Wisconsin 7, #3 Minnesota 2

Josefin Bouveng scored twice and Abbey Murphy scored her 15th of the season as Minnesota handed Wisconsin its first loss of the year and snapped the Badgers’ 37-game unbeaten streak with a 5-1 win in Madison. Top-ranked Wisconsin bounced back to earn a split in resounding fashion as the Badgers put seven in the net, chasing starting goalie Hannah Clark in a 7-2 rout in Madison. Abbey Murphy scored her 16th of the year in the loss. Murphy leads the nation in goals and is tied for the lead in points with 25. The Golden Gophers are off next weekend.

Sat: #5 Minnesota Duluth 3, #10 St. Cloud State 2

Five different players scored and Thea Johansson scored her eighth of the season as fifth-ranked UMD opened up the weekend series in St. Cloud with a 5-3 win over the 10th-ranked Huskies. UMD continued its mastery of St. Cloud State, taking the weekend sweep with a 3-2 win on Saturday. Thea Johansson scored two more goals, giving her three on the weekend and 10 on the year. UMD has the weekend off, as do the Huskies, who dropped their fifth straight.

Fri: #2 Ohio State 3, #13 St. Thomas 2 OT

Sat: #2 Ohio State 8, #13 St. Thomas 0

St. Thomas goalie Julia Minotti made 40 saves and gave the Tommies a fighting chance, but the second-ranked Buckeyes came away with a 3-2 overtime win as Sanni Vanhanen buried the OT game-winner 97 seconds into the extra frame. Game Two was no treat for the Tommies as the Buckeyes put eight on the board with Joy Dunne scoring four of them for Ohio State. St. Thomas will head to Bemidji State next weekend.

We also kicked off the Division III season over the weekend with the MIAC teams in full display. We’ll start with the men. 

Division III Men

Augsburg dropped both games over the weekend, falling 4–1 to #6 Aurora on Friday and 3–2 to #11 UW-Stevens Point on Saturday.

Concordia-Moorhead and Concordia Wisconsin split their series in Moorhead — the Cobbers won 5–2 on Friday before the Falcons evened things up with a 6–1 victory on Saturday.

MSOE and St. Scholastica also split their weekend — the Raiders opened with a 4–2 win Friday before St. Scholastica took Saturday’s rematch 3–1.

St. John’s and Marian played to a 4–4 tie on Friday with the Johnnies winning the shootout.

St. Mary’s and Lake Forest skated to a 5–5 tie Friday, Lake Forest taking the shootout, then the Cardinals rebounded Saturday with a 4–2 win to claim the weekend edge.

St. Olaf and #5 St. Norbert split their series — the Green Knights shut out the Oles 3–0 on Friday, but St. Olaf came back with a 5–4 overtime win on Saturday.

Beloit fell 6–2 to Bethel in its lone game of the weekend.

Division III Women

#2 Augsburg won both games over #9 Adrian, taking Friday’s opener 4–1 and Saturday’s finale 3–2.

Hamline swept Aurora, posting shutouts of 4–0 on Friday and 5–0 on Saturday.

St. Catherine rolled past Dubuque in both games, winning 7–1 Friday and 5–0 Saturday.

#5 Gustavus Adolphus and #6 St. Norbert split their ranked matchup — Gustavus took game one 3–2 before St. Norbert answered with a 2–1 overtime win in game two.

Bethel swept MSOE, earning a 4–2 win on Friday and a 9–0 rout on Saturday.

St. Mary’s and Concordia Wisconsin split their weekend — Concordia Wisconsin won 3–1 on Friday before St. Mary’s blanked the Falcons 1–0 Saturday.

St. Scholastica picked up a weekend sweep at Lawrence with 1–0 and 3–1 victories.

UW-Eau Claire took both games from Concordia-Moorhead, 3–1 Friday and 2–0 Saturday.

UW-Stevens Point beat St. Olaf twice, 2–1 on Friday and 2–1 in overtime on Saturday

Division I Men

Fri: St. Thomas 2, #14 Providence 2 (UST wins SO)

Sat: #14 Providence 7, St. Thomas 4

St. Thomas’ men’s program opened up its new barn by jumping out to a 2-0 lead on a pair of shorthanded goals against No. 14 Providence, but the Friars tied things up with a pair in the third to earn a 2-2 tie. The Tommies won the shootout, giving them absolutely no points in this non-conference tilt. St. Thomas’ new rink is off to a wild start. The wild women’s series coupled with the men’s series against Providence may have not given the hosts the desired outcomes, but man, they were some fun games. No. 14 Providence won the weekend picking up a 7-4 win on Saturday night, rallying from a 4-1 deficit to score the games last six goals and leave St. Paul with a victory. Alex Gaffney scored his fifth of the season for the Tommies, who fell to 2-4-1. St. Thomas will have a home-and-home to open its final CCHA season with Minnesota State.

Fri: #18 Minnesota-Duluth 3, #13 Minnesota 0

Sat: #18 Minnesota-Duluth 4, #13 Minnesota 1

Zam Plante scored his fifth of the season and Adam Gajan picked up his first shutout of the season as No. 18 UMD opened up a weekend series at Mariucci with a 3-0 win over the host Gophers. The Bulldogs outshot the Gophers 24-17. Max Plante scored a pair of goals and No. 18 Minnesota Duluth completed its first sweep of No. 13 Minnesota since 2021 and the first sweep at Mariucci since 2009. The Bulldogs are off to a 7-1 start for the first time since the 1989-90 season. The Gophers fell to 2-5. UMD will open up NCHC play next week in Grand Forks, taking on North Dakota, while the Gophers will have a Thursday-Saturday series at No. 17 Wisconsin to open up Big Ten play.

Fri: #20 Minnesota State 4, RPI 2

Sat: #20 Minnesota State 2, RPI 1

In Mankato, 20th-ranked Minnesota State outshot RPI 40-19 as four different player scored as the Mavericks opened up the non-conference series with a 4-0 win. In Game Two, RPI outshot Minnesota State 30-18, but Alex Tracy stopped 29 of those 30 attempts. It was enough as Charlie Lurie’s third goal of the season came 32 seconds into the third period, which was good enough to be the game winner. Minnesota State improved to 3-1-2. RPI is 0-6. Minnesota State will open CCHA play next weekend with a home-and-home with St. Thomas.

Fri: Bemidji State 1, Augustana 0, OT

Sat: Bemidji State 3, Augustana 2

Oliver Peer continued his solid early season, scoring his fourth of the year in overtime giving host Bemidji State a 1-0 over Augustana to open up CCHA play. Raythan Robbins stopped 27 shots to earn his first career collegiate shutout. Max Namestnikov scored his first career goal as three different Beavers scored to give Bemidji State a 3-2 win over visiting Augustana to earn the weekend sweep. Bemidji State will head east to take on Bowling Green.

Fri: St. Cloud State 5, Alaska Anchorage 2

Sat: St. Cloud State 5, Alaska Anchorage 1

Five different players scored and Finn Loftus scored his first career goal as St. Cloud State beat old WCHA foe Alaska Anchorage 5-2 on Friday at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Austin Burnevik scored twice, giving him eight on the season, which currently stands second in the country behind Penn State’s J.J. Wiebusch. Patriks Berzins stopped 28 shots for his second win of the season, while Aiden Welch scored his first collegiate goal for the Huskies to cap off the homecoming sweep at The Herb. The Huskies host returning national champion Western Michigan to open up NCHC play next weekend.

Division I Women

Fri: #3 Minnesota 4, #4 Minnesota Duluth 0

Sat: #3 Minnesota 3, #4 Minnesota Duluth 2

Ava Lindsay scored twice as third-ranked Minnesota scored three second-period goals to skate past host UMD in game one of their WCHA series at Amsoil. Hannah Clark made 24 saves for her third shutout of the season. Abbey Murphy scored twice, giving her a nation-leading 14 goals in the first 10 games of the season as the Golden Gophers finished off the road sweep against fourth-ranked Minnesota Duluth 3-2. Hannah Clark stopped 37 shots. Duluth’s Caitlin Kraemer scored her eight goal of the season, which is fifth in the nation. Minnesota heads to top-ranked Wisconsin next weekend, while UMD heads over to St. Cloud to take on the host Huskies.

Sat: #1 Wisconsin 4, Minnesota State 0

Sun: #1 Wisconsin 8, Minnesota State 0

Four different players scored as top-ranked Wisconsin opened up its Saturday-Sunday series with Minnesota State with a 4-0 win in Madison. It was a rough outing for visiting Minnesota State as the top-ranked Badgers closed out the sweep with an 8-rip shutout of the Mavericks. Eight different Badgers scored, and contrary to what you might have heard on BTN+, it’s highly unlikely Minnesota State’s Avery Stilwell was having too much fun in there in goal. Badgers must have loaded up on that Destination Hydration Jump Around Spring Water … or as we used to call it, BadgerMax. Minnesota State drops to 5-5 on the season and will host Bemidji State next weekend. Bemidji was off this weekend.

Fri: #2 Ohio State 5, #10 St. Cloud State 1

Sat: #2 Ohio State 4, #10 St. Cloud State 2

Sanni Vanhanen scored twice as Ohio State broke open a 2-1 game with three third-period goals. Maria Mikaelyan scored her fifth of the year for the Huskies, who were outshot in Game One 40-12. Second-ranked Ohio State rallied from a 2-0 deficit to compete the home sweep over 10th-ranked St. Cloud State with a 4-2 win on Saturday in Columbus. Joye Dunne scored a natural hatty in the third period to give her eight goals on the season. St. Cloud State hosts UMD this coming weekend.

Fri: Providence 7, #13 St. Thomas 6

Sat: #13 St. Thomas 5, Providence 1

The women’s debut at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena was an exciting one, but not a winning one for the host St. Thomas Tommies. Despite holding Providence to 14 shots, half of those shots found the net as the Friars picked up a 7-6 overtime win in a wild game in St. Paul on Friday afternoon. Reichen Kirchmair scored four goals, including the game-winner halfway through the extra period. Four different players found the net, including Rylee Bartz, who scored her seventh of the season as the Tommies rebounded from Friday’s heartbreaker with a sound 5-1 win over Providence to earn the home split at the new building. St. Thomas improved to 7-3 and will host Ohio State next weekend.

Splits and ties dominated the scoreboard over the weekend. We had some old WCHA rivalries rekindled, some in-state scraps and some bizarre flips from one game to the next. But that’s all normal in the world of men’s and women’s Division I college hockey - or so I’ve learned. It’s time for Minnesota’s College Hockey Scoreboard Show. 

Wisconsin vs Minnesota State (at Wisconsin)

Thu, Oct. 16, 2025: #17 Wisconsin 1, #20 Minnesota State 1 (UW wins SO)

Fri, Oct. 17, 2025: #17 Wisconsin 2, #20 Minnesota State 2 (UW wins SO)

Mike Hastings got the better of his old team if you're looking for a criteria to break ties. On Thursday, No. 17 Wisconsin and No. 20 Minnesota State skated to a 1-1 tie with the Badgers winning in the shootout. On Friday, it was the same, only this time it was a 2-2 tie with the Badgers scoring twice in the second to tie the game and then winning the shootout. Minnesota State hosts RPI in Mankato this coming weekend in a non-conference series. But you knew that. RPI was non-conference, that is. 

North Dakota vs Minnesota (at North Dakota)

Fri, Oct. 17, 2025: #8 North Dakota 5, #13 Minnesota 2

Sat, Oct. 18, 2025: #13 Minnesota 5, #8 North Dakota 1

It was a split in Grand Forks with old friends meeting up on the ice at Ralph Engelstad Arena. North Dakota opened the series with a 5-2 win, while the Gophers took the second game on Saturday 5-1. 

Dylan James and E.J. Emery scored twice on Friday as the Fighting Hawks reeled off four straight goals to pull away. UND outshot the Gophers 32-15 on Friday. Saturday night was tighter on shots as UND held just a three-shot advantage, but five different Gophers scored to spread the wealth and head back to the Twin Cities with the win. Brody Lamb scored his fourth of the season. Minnesota will host UMD this weekend. 

Minnesota Duluth vs Bemidji State (at Minnesota Duluth)

Fri, Oct. 17, 2025: Minnesota-Duluth 7, Bemidji State 3

Sat, Oct. 18, 2025: Minnesota-Duluth 5, Bemidji State 1

Minnesota-Duluth picked up a sweep over in-state rival Bemidji State on a home-and-home series. The first night up in Bemidji, the host Beavers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game, but UMD screamed back, scoring six straight across the first and second periods to come away with a 7-3 win on Friday. Max and Zam Plante each scored twice. On Saturday at AMSoil, UMD jumped out to a 3-0 lead and cruised to a 5-1 victory. Jayson Shaugabay scored twice while Zam Plante added his fourth of the season to lift Duluth to 5-1 on the season. Bemidji State hosts Augustana to open up CCHA play next weekend, while Duluth heads to the Twin Cities for a non-conference series with the Gophers. 

Air Force vs St. Thomas (at Air Force)

Fri, Oct. 17, 2025: St. Thomas 11, Air Force 2

Sat, Oct. 18, 2025: Air Force 6, St. Thomas 2

St. Thomas split a wacky series with Air Force in Colorado Springs. In Friday's game, the Tommies scored five first-period goals and continued to pour it on the Falcons. Alex Gaffney, Luc Laylin and Josh Giuliani each scored twice in and 11-2 mudholing at Clune Arena. The 11 goals is a new record in St. Thomas' short tenure as a Division I school. Then came Saturday as Air Force bounced back, picking up a 6-2 win to earn the split. Gaffney and Giuliani picked up the goals in the second game for the Tommies. St. Thomas will open up the brand new Lee & Penny Anderson Arena on Friday as the men and women host Providence.

St. Cloud State vs Vermont (at St. Cloud State)

Fri, Oct. 17, 2025: Vermont 2, St. Cloud State 1 (OT)

Sat, Oct. 18, 2025: St. Cloud State 4, Vermont 0

St. Cloud State earned what could be termed a disappointing split in a weekend series at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, dropping the first game 2-1 in overtime before rebounding 4-0 on Saturday. Both games looked the same, with one exception - the scoreboard. On Friday, the Huskies outshot the Catamounts 46-21, but Sebastian Tornquist's rebound in the extra period gave Vermont the win. On Saturday, all four Huskies goals came on the powerplay, including a pair by Austin Burnevik. St. Cloud outshot Vermont 45-21 in the series finale. St. Cloud hosts Alaska-Anchorage this coming weekend.

Women

Minnesota Duluth vs Minnesota State (at Minnesota Duluth)

Fri, Oct. 17, 2025: #4 Minnesota-Duluth 5, Minnesota State 0

Sat, Oct. 18, 2025: #4 Minnesota-Duluth 3, Minnesota State 1

Caitlin Kraemer scored twice in Minnesota-Duluth's home opener and the host Bulldogs cruised 5-0 over Minnesota State on Friday . Transfer Thea Johansson scored twice, giving her career point #100 as UMD completed the sweep over Minnesota State with a 3-1 win at AMSoil on Saturday. The Bulldogs are now 13-0-2 in their last 15 meetings with Minnesota State dating back to the 2021-22 season. UMD will host Minnesota this coming weekend, while Minnesota State has to Madison to face the top-ranked Badgers. 

St. Cloud State vs St. Thomas (at St. Cloud State)

Fri, Oct. 17, 2025: #10 St. Cloud State 4, St. Thomas 3 (OT)

Sat, Oct. 18, 2025: St. Thomas 4, #10 St. Cloud State 3 (OT)

St. Cloud State and St. Thomas split a weekend set at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in a pair of 4-3 overtime contests. Friday's game saw St. Cloud State rally to score late to force overtime and then score the game winner in the extra frame. Alice Sauriol scored twice, including the game-winner. Saturday's series finale was a flip of the script from Friday as Jenessa Gazdik scored the game-winner coming out of the box in overtime as St. Thomas rallied from a two-goal deficit to pick off the host Huskies. St. Thomas is at home to christen its new rink, the Lee & Penny Anderson Arena, against visiting Providence. St. Cloud State hits the road to face Ohio State.

Minnesota vs Ohio State (at Minnesota)

Sat, Oct. 18, 2025: #2 Ohio State 4, #3 Minnesota 1

Sun, Oct. 19, 2025: #3 Minnesota 6, #2 Ohio State 3

Second-ranked Ohio State took the first game of the series with the third-ranked Gophers 4-1, giving coach Brad Frost's team their first loss of the season. Ohio State jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back. Six different players for the Golden Gophers as they earned a split with the second-ranked Buckeyes with a 6-3 win at Ridder on Sunday afternoon. Bella Fanale scored her fifth of the season, while Nelli Laitinen scored her fourth of the year. The Gophers are now 7-1 on the season and head to Duluth next weekend for a WCHA series with the fourth-ranked Bulldogs.

The first series between future NCHC foes went the way of North Dakota, as the 10th-ranked Fighting Hawks swept the home-and-home with No. 19 St. Thomas, taking Friday’s opener 6-2 at The Ralph and Sunday’s rematch 5-2 at the building formerly known as The X. Five different players scored for North Dakota on Friday, giving Dane Jackson his first win behind the bench as head coach. The Hawks repeated the balanced attack Sunday with five more goal scorers. Lucas Wahlin scored in both games for the Tommies, giving him three goals on the season. As noted earlier, North Dakota hosts the Gophers next weekend in what will surely be a spirited series — and that’s just talking about the stands. St. Thomas heads to Colorado Springs to take on Air Force in a series that may or may not be streamed, depending on the status of the U.S. government. Yes, the shutdown impacted stream staffing at Air Force this past weekend.

No. 20 Minnesota State split a weekend set in Omaha against their fellow Maverick brethren. In Friday’s opener, Omaha scored four straight to take a 4-1 lead and cruised to victory. Minnesota State flipped the script on Saturday, never trailing in a 4-1 win over the hosts. All five goals came on the power play, with Charlie Lurie’s first of the year officially going in as the game-winner. Minnesota State heads to Madison next weekend to face former coach Mike Hastings and the Badgers of Wisconsin in a Thursday–Friday series at the Kohl Center. State Street Brats and Ian’s Pizza … Love Madison.

Scout Truman and Max Plante each scored their third goals of the year as Minnesota Duluth took the first game of its home series at AMSOIL, beating Augustana 4-1. The second game looked a lot different — the Bulldogs outshot the Vikings 40-16, but Augustana earned a 4-0 win to split the series. Hunter Bischoff scored twice for Augie, including one of two third-period empty-netters. Duluth meets Bemidji State this weekend in a home-and-home: the Beavers host Friday’s opener before UMD closes the series at home. Yeah. Bent Paddle. 

Speaking of home-and-homes and Bemidji, St. Cloud State swept its series with the Beavers, winning 4-3 at the Sanford Center on Friday and 4-2 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Saturday. Austin Burnevik scored in each game, giving him three goals on the season. Oliver Peer scored twice in Friday’s loss for Bemidji, while Nolan Road netted his first career goal in Saturday’s Husky win. Reilly Funk added his fourth of the year for the Beavers. Bemidji’s Adam Flammang was checked hard into the boards early in the third period and had to be carted off. He gave a thumbs up to his bench as he was taken from the ice — here’s hoping for a safe and speedy recovery for the St. Michael native. Guy’s a real gamer. Get well soon dude. 

On the women’s side, the national spotlight was on the top-ranked Wisconsin Badgers and the fourth-ranked Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. If there’s ever a case study in snatching victory from the jaws of defeat — or vice versa — check out the final few minutes of  of Wisconsin’s 4-3 Saturday win. Trailing 3-2, UMD was hit with a five-minute major after Badger coach Mark Johnson challenged for elbowing off a face-off - that grammatically sounds painful as it is. After review, Wisconsin went on the power play with an extra attacker, and Caroline Harvey tied it with 20 seconds left. Off the ensuing face-off, Wisconsin won the draw, skated down, and Cassie Hall buried the game-winner 12 seconds later. That game was straight-up drunk. Wisconsin controlled the second game, peppering Eve Gascon with 54 shots in a 4-0 win. The Badgers improve to 6-0 and are unbeaten in their last 33 dating back to last season. UMD will host Minnesota State this coming week. 

No. 3 Minnesota swept 10th-ranked St. Cloud State in a home-and-home, taking the first game 4-1 at Ridder with four different Gophers scoring, including the first of three goals on the weekend by Abbey Murphy — she now has 12 on the year. Sarah Paul’s third of the season stood as the game-winner as Minnesota broke a 3-3 tie with a pair of goals in the third. St. Cloud hosts St. Thomas next weekend, while the Gophers welcome second-ranked Ohio State.

Speaking of the Buckeyes, they swept visiting Bemidji State in Columbus, scoring on four of their first nine shots in Friday’s 6-0 win. Saturday was tighter — Bemidji grabbed an early lead, but Ohio State came back to win 2-1. Hailey Armstrong scored her sixth of the year for the Beavers, while Hilda Svensson netted the game-winner for Ohio State midway through the second. Bemidji State heads to Mankato next weekend to take on Minnesota State.

And speaking of …

St. Thomas and Minnesota State split their WCHA weekend in Mankato. On Friday, Teagan Kulenkamp scored her second of the year in overtime to give the Tommies a 2-1 win. Saturday went the Mavericks’ way as Hailey Hanson made 15 saves for the shutout, and three different players scored, including Zoe Lopez’s fourth of the season.

MNCAA Ep148 - Feat. Anthony Smith | Boston College News | Week 1 Gophers RECAP | Michigan Tech PREVIEW

We’ll begin on the men’s side … 

Eighth-ranked Minnesota opened its season with a split against Michigan Tech. On Friday, Brodie Ziemer scored twice and the Gophers exploded for four goals in the third period to top the Huskies 6-3 at Mariucci. A night later, Tech turned the tables, outshooting Minnesota 33-13 and rallying from a 3-2 deficit to take the finale 5-3, giving new head coach Bill Muckalt his first win behind the bench. Byron native Brody Lamb scored his second of the year, while former Gopher Owen Bartoszkiewicz earned the win in net for the Huskies.

Nineteenth-ranked St. Thomas made its season debut with a dramatic 4-3 road win at St. Cloud State. The Tommies built a 3-0 lead on goals from Lucas Wahlin, Charlie Shoen, and Jake Braccini before the Huskies battled back to tie it with tallies from Mason Reiners, Noah Urness, and Austin Burnevik. A late five-minute major proved costly as Nathan Pilling buried the game-winner with under five minutes to play, giving St. Thomas the win in its opener.

Minnesota-Duluth opened its season with authority, sweeping Alaska in Fairbanks. On Friday, Hermantown brothers Max Plante and Zam Plante combined for three goals — two from Max — in a 5-1 victory. The next night, UMass Lowell transfer Scout Truman scored twice, while Jayson Shaugabay and Harper Bentz each netted their first of the year as UMD completed the sweep 4-1 at the Carlson Center.

Bemidji State rolled through its Alaskan trip, matching a program high with nine goals in Friday’s opener, then finishing the sweep with a shutout. In the 9-2 win over Alaska Anchorage, Connor McLennon and Reilly Funk each scored twice. On Saturday, five different Beavers found the back of the net, including Mitch Wolfe and Tory Lund, while rookie goaltender Max Hildebrand stopped 23 shots for a shutout in his first collegiate start.

Over to the women’s side, third-ranked Minnesota stayed perfect, sweeping 13th-ranked Boston University. On Friday, Abbey Murphy scored twice and added an assist, and Bella Fanale netted her fourth of the year in a 5-0 win at Walter Brown Arena. Murphy followed with a hat trick on Saturday, giving her nine goals through four games as the Gophers rolled again, 5-2, improving to 4-0 on the year — and 4-0 against the city of Boston.

Minnesota State also earned a sweep, handling Lindenwood in Mankato. On Friday, Northfield’s Ayla Puppe scored twice in a 4-0 shutout as the Mavericks outshot Lindenwood 45-17. Saturday’s rematch was tighter, with Makayla Moran netting the game-winner midway through the third for a 3-2 win, pushing Lindenwood to 0-6 on the year — all against WCHA opponents.

Bemidji State collected its first wins of the season with a sweep of Robert Morris. On Friday, three different Beavers scored, including Andover native Isa Goettl, and goaltender Kaitlin Groess stopped 12 shots for the shutout in a 3-0 win. Saturday was all Hailey Armstrong, who scored all four Bemidji goals in a 4-1 victory — tying the school record for goals in a game, matching Kerri McEwen’s mark set back in 1999.

What’s coming up

Looking ahead, the second weekend of Division I men’s hockey features a marquee matchup in Minneapolis as #8 Minnesota hosts #6 Boston College in a Thursday–Friday series at Mariucci Arena. #18 Minnesota State travels west for two games at Nebraska Omaha, while #19 St. Thomas faces #11 North Dakota in a home-and-home — Friday in Grand Forks and Sunday back in St. Paul at Grand Casino Arena. Minnesota Duluth opens its home slate with a non-conference series against Augustana, and St. Cloud State and Bemidji State renew their in-state rivalry with a home-and-home, starting Friday in Bemidji and wrapping up Saturday in St. Cloud.

On the women’s side, #3 Minnesota meets #11 St. Cloud State in a home-and-home — Friday at Ridder Arena and Saturday at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Top-ranked Wisconsin hosts #5 Minnesota Duluth in a high-profile WCHA clash in Madison. #2 Ohio State welcomes Bemidji State for two, while Minnesota State hosts St. Thomas in a conference matchup in Mankato.

In Syracuse, sixth-ranked UMD won the opener, shutting out the host Orange 4-0. Caitlin Kraemer scored her third of the season, while Thea Johannson, Rae Mayer, and Stillwater's Josie St. Martin each scored their second goals of the season. Eve Gascon picked up her first shutout of the season and 12th of her career.

Annabella Fanale scored a pair of goals in her first career game and four other Gophers scored, including Abbey Murphy, who collected her 199th career point as Minnesota won the first game of the series on Thursday 7-1 at Ridder. The Gophers outshot BC 48-10, including 21-0 in the first period. Burnsville native Kendra Distad also scored for the Gophers.
