The Grief of Choosing Yourself: When Closure Still Hurts

To the woman who is struggling to let go of what she hoped would work:

Healing isn’t always about getting the closure you deserve. Sometimes it’s about accepting that God is calling you forward, even when your heart is still grieving what could have been.

Choosing yourself doesn’t mean you stopped loving them.
It doesn’t mean you’re bitter.
It doesn’t mean you’ve given up.

It means you’ve finally decided that your peace, healing, and purpose matter too.

Sometimes God will close doors that your emotions wanted to keep open because He sees what you cannot. What feels like rejection today may actually be divine protection and redirection.

You can mourn what was lost and still trust where God is leading you.

This season, we are choosing peace over confusion, healing over unhealthy attachment, and purpose over pain.

You can love someone and still choose yourself.

The Truth About Fake Loyalty

In this powerful episode of Healing Women of Color, we uncover the difference between real loyalty and fake loyalty. Using the story of Judas and Jesus, we explore how someone can be close to you, have access to you, and still not be loyal to you.

Presence is not proof of loyalty. Chemistry is not proof of loyalty. History is not proof of loyalty.

Real loyalty is revealed under pressure, not convenience.

Together, we’ll discuss how emotional boundaries and spiritual discernment work hand in hand to help you recognize unhealthy patterns, stop confusing access with alignment, and protect your heart from people who repeatedly show inconsistent character.

This episode is for anyone who has been hurt by betrayal, disappointed by conditional relationships, or grieving people they thought were solid. You’ll learn how to trust patterns over promises, strengthen your discernment, and release relationships that were never built on genuine loyalty.

-This season, we’re choosing clarity over confusion.
-This season, we’re honoring what people repeatedly show us.
-This season, we’re letting fake loyalty lose access.

Because sometimes the pain isn’t that they changed—it’s that you finally saw what was always there.

You are rare. You are valuable. You are becoming.

Love Isn’t What Sustains a Relationship—Capacity Is

Many of us have been taught that love is enough to make a relationship work. But the truth is, love alone cannot sustain a healthy relationship. Real love requires capacity—the emotional, mental, spiritual, and relational ability to show up consistently, communicate effectively, regulate emotions, practice self-control, and love with maturity.

In this episode, we explore how unhealed trauma, survival mode, poor communication, and emotional immaturity can sabotage even the deepest feelings of love. We discuss the importance of emotional regulation, healthy communication, character, selflessness without self-abandonment, and the role healing plays in expanding our capacity to love well.

Most importantly, we are reminded that capacity can be built. Through healing, self-awareness, accountability, and faith, God can help us become the people capable of sustaining the very love we’ve been praying for.

This episode is an invitation to stop asking only for love and start asking for the wisdom, healing, and emotional maturity necessary to steward it.

Key Message:
Love is the spark.
Capacity is the container.

Don’t lose love because you never developed the skills to sustain it.

The Mask

In this episode, we unpack the painful reality of loving someone whose words never matched their actions.

The Mask is a raw conversation about:

* false narratives after a breakup,
* emotional manipulation,
* covert, malignant, and grandiose narcissism,
* performative healing,
* and the confusion that comes when someone suddenly becomes “everything you asked for” only after you leave.

We discuss how some people change their image—but not their character—and why healing requires us to stop falling in love with potential while ignoring patterns.

This episode is also about empowerment.

About choosing peace over performance.
Truth over illusion.
Healing over attachment.

Because this season, we are becoming women who:

* trust our discernment,
* protect our peace,
* stop abandoning ourselves for love,
* and choose relationships rooted in consistency, accountability, and emotional safety.

🎧 The Mask is for the woman reclaiming herself after emotional confusion.

You are not crazy for what you experienced.
And you are not weak for finally walking away.

<itunes:summary>This week on Healing Women of Color, we’re diving into the deeper side of relationship healing, accountability, emotional patterns, spiritual discernment, and the cycles many of us unknowingly participate in from unhealed wounds.

In this episode, we explore:
-emotional avoidance and over-giving
- fear of vulnerability disguised as independence
-confusing intensity with connection
- spiritual confusion vs true discernment
- how pride, control, inconsistency, and emotional chaos affect relationships
-the importance of boundaries, accountability, prayer, and healing through Christ

This conversation is not about villainizing people — it’s about recognizing unhealthy patterns on both sides of the dynamic so we can stop repeating cycles that destroy our peace.

Because healing is not just about breaking free from unhealthy relationships…

It’s about breaking the emotional and spiritual patterns that kept us attached to them in the first place.

It’s about understanding how unhealed wounds, emotional avoidance, fear of vulnerability, people-pleasing, pride, control, and attachment can create cycles that leave both people hurting.

Together, we unpack:
-The emotional patterns that contribute to unhealthy dynamics
- How over-giving and emotional avoidance often attract each other
-The difference between discernment and emotional attachment
- How pride, fear, and the need for validation can keep us stuck
- The role spiritual and emotional healing play in breaking cycles
-Why accountability and compassion must coexist in growth

Most importantly, we discuss how Jesus helps us move from confusion to clarity, from emotional survival to emotional maturity, and from unhealthy patterns to true healing.

Because healing isn’t just about breaking free from people.

It’s about breaking free from the patterns, wounds, and beliefs that kept us bound in the first place.

This season, we are choosing peace over patterns, discernment over confusion, and healing over self-abandonment.</itunes:summary>

Breaking Free: Healing from Manipulation, Control, and Confusion in Relationships

In this powerful episode of Healing Women of Color, we dive into manipulation, control, confusion, pride, and spiritual discernment. We explore how Jezebel-like patterns can operate through emotional dependency, seduction, validation, and control, while Leviathan-like patterns thrive through chaos, deception, pride, truth distortion, and division.

Together, we unpack how unhealthy relationships and environments can slowly disconnect us from our peace, identity, and confidence. More importantly, we discuss how prayer, discernment, boundaries, healing, and a relationship with Jesus Christ can help us recognize these patterns and break free.

This episode is a reminder that confusion is not God’s design for your life. You deserve clarity, peace, emotional safety, and healthy love.

This season, we’re choosing clarity over confusion, truth over illusion, healing over attachment, and peace over chaos.

Healing occurs when we make the shift from thinking about our issue to feeling our feelings. The shift from thinking to feeling happens when we pay attention to the feelings themselves. This means actually entering them, not thinking about the problem or even about the feeling. So it is actually about feeling the grief, anger, sadness or fear or whatever, and following what happens.

It is your birthright to experience true love and intimacy. Feeling our feelings was set up to end suffering in relationships. Having a sense of safety within our relationships, and the environment in which we live, is essential for our physical health and wellbeing. We use the wisdom of own feelings, emotions, our intuition, to have healthier relationships and to make decisions that are in alignment with who we truly are. It starts with the healing relationship we have with ourselves.

Healing Is Moving On

Moving on from a relationship is one of the most difficult transitions in a person’s life. And while each of us moves on in our own way and on our own time, one truth is almost universal: we all face this challenge at some point in our lives. One thing that we are not is alone in our suffering. Recently, it was discovered that, on average, people spend about 18 months of their lives getting over breakups. The good news is that, although it takes time, people are able to move on. And when they do, they leave behind lessons, actual, tangible, lived experience ways to heal. Because, eventually, we do heal.

Healing is Knowing When To Walk Away

I often get asked, “Should I leave this relationship or continue to try to make it work?” It is very difficult to decide if and when it is time to leave. Some people are afraid of commitment, getting hurt, or risking being vulnerable. As a result, they are often quick to leave a relationship in order to protect themselves. Others stay too long, hoping things will change. Here are some questions to ask yourself to help assess if you are getting what you need from the relationship you’re in.

1- Do I feel I am my best self when I am with my partner?

2- Do I hide any part of myself to make things work, or to avoid conflict?

3- Do I feel valued and validated?

4- Can I see myself living this way long term?

5- Do I feel truly accepted by my partner?

6- Do I accept my partner fully?

7- Are there any deal breakers I’m choosing to ignore?

8- Am I ignoring any core values or beliefs that are important to me, in order to stay in this relationship?

9- How do we better each other’s lives?

10- Can we grow together, or do we impede each other’s growth?

We can love someone and they can love us, but we may not be right for each other. It is important to be in a grounded, and clear space when you make this decision. You don’t want to be reactive, or come from a place of anger. If you’ve asked yourself all these questions and are still struggling, you may need some support to navigate your way through this. If your friends and family are not enough, or are complicating matters with their opinions, therapy may be a helpful alternative. An objective perspective that helps you look at life differently, may be exactly what you need.

Remember, you are the most important person. Take care of you and honor you, and so will everyone else. We teach people how to treat us, by example.

<itunes:summary>Walking away from those we love can hurt, but we must accept that their part in our story has come to an end. Don’t force, don’t cling, don’t get reactive. Heartbreak hurts. There’s no mathematical formula or accurate step by step process that can make it go away or at least make it less painful. I wish I can pull out all the broken pieces of me on the inside and heal them with my bare hands, but I know that’s not how it works. We know that time can only fix everything that has been damaged inside of us. Learning when to walk away heals us. If we are strong enough to let go. We are strong enough to heal our broken hearts.</itunes:summary>

Healing is Learning to Accept Love after Trauma

Relationships, for most of us, are never simple. Perhaps when we were young things seemed straightforward. It was hard to understand why someone would stay with someone they don’t like being around when we were young, but as we grow older we feel the layers of dynamics in our relationships. So much of who we are ,our pasts, our thoughts, our dreams, our fears, our own families of origin, holds the experience of our adult relationships the way a bag holds a pile of rice. Our minds shape the way we see our relationships, but that doesn’t change the reality of our relationships.

Whether we’re in an unhealthy relationship, healing from an unhealthy relationship, or simply going out on new dates, our minds will always shape our perception of who we’re with. And that’s not wrong or bad; it simply is what it is. When two minds see each other and love the contents of the others’ mind, it can be beautiful, but sometimes we only see what we want to see. So how do we know the difference?

Dealing with reality as it is is the first step in becoming truly present and mentally healthy, both within relationships and independently. Reality isn’t always pleasant, in fact, it’s often unpleasant. But not shying away from the things that cause us discomfort and not over indulging in the things that are comfortable is how we become sustainably happy. Practice taking a deep breath while reminding yourself that you are actively healing one of the most fundamental of skills. Recognize that this is a moment in which you are being cared for, loved, and nurtured. Try not to miss these moments of kindness and care. Learning to be loved is a vital part of your healing.

Healing From The Bottom Up

Our dedication to self awareness, healing, and discovery fully correlates with our ability to be there in a positive way for another. If we don't take the time and effort to dig deep inside ourselves, and notice some of the patterns behind our actions, we run the risk inadvertently hurting others, even if we have the best intentions!

Often times as we've been hurt, our adaptions speak in the world from that hurt because it was the only way we functioned or thought we could gain, love, connection, or validation.

Unfortunately without taking the time to look, some of these "adaptations" may not be as objectively helpful as we might think.

In fact, and we will NEVER see this without the perspective of inner work and self awareness they maybe just as hurtful as that original hurt placed upon us...

It is time to dig deep in your self and relational awareness so that your empowerment leads to more healing and connection and less hurt and disconnection. Both within yourself and your relationships with others.

Be prepared to take the time to self analyze! It's necessary.

Healing Isn't Linear

Healing isn’t a straight path—it’s a process of ups, downs, and returning to yourself with grace each time. Some days you feel free, others you feel it all again—and both are part of becoming whole. What resurfaces isn’t regression, it’s another opportunity to release and grow. It’s messy, cyclical, and still sacred.
