The Democratic Party + Iowa Caucus Recap

Wow, could anything be more of a shitshow than the 2020 Democratic Primary, and specifically the Iowa Caucus? Listen as Katie and Allison struggle through understanding any of the fraught details of the first “election” of the primary season - which most likely won’t count, and might not ever happen again! They also work through, as Warren supporters, what it means to have Bernie break through as decided front runner, and what exactly bothers us so much about Pete Buttigieg.

Got something to get off your chest?

Katie and Allison are joined by special guest Maddy Court (@xenaworrierprincess) to unpack our feelings about The L Word: Generation Q. We attempt to unravel the confusing plot lines and character motivations of Bette, Shane, Alice, and the rest on this Very Important Lesbian Drama. Who’s the worst boss, Alice or Shane? Have you ever been so stressed by your L.A. mayoral campaign you have to stop and cook a tajine? Is it offensive to paint your trans boyfriend as a merman? And the most important question of all: IS THIS SHOW QUEER?!? We get to the bottom of all that and more, plus a lil rant at the beginning about Katie’s latest viral vid for Cut. *Warning!

It got a little TOO loose on the intro of this ep and got really sidetracked with a discussion on Yoni Eggs (blame Katie’s massage therapist Gail), but then things got back on board with a game where Allison quizzes Katie on common action sports terms. They review how it feels to be a non-straight white cis dude in the sport, and have a frank convo about how it’s evolving in the era of #MeToo and “cancel culture”, activism and the push for more equity and inclusion, and the work folks like Kristin are doing to make skating more safe for all.

Follow Kristin on social: @andawhamybar

Follow Skate Like A Girl: @skatelikeagirl and check out their website: Skate Like A Girl

Got something to get off your chest?

So, we started out this episode wanting to cover everything Thanksgiving, but we ended up ranting about the Bon Appetit “Making Perfect” Thanksgiving series for the entire time - we just had that much to say about it. Join us as we critique the BA cast’s version of a Thanksgiving feast, from the turkey to the pie. Why did Chris Morocco decide to make fried rice? What the hell is a German Butterball and how is it not a turkey? Who is the person this Thanksgiving meal is for? All this, plus our idea of a perfect Thanksgiving in our review!

Got something to get off your chest? Leave us a voicemail with your rant at 805-635-RANT

Email us at rantandreviewpod@gmail.com

Rate and review our podcast on Apple Podcasts!

Follow us on Twitter & Instagram

In a world full of frustration and discontent, one thing is for sure - folks sure do love astrology right now. So we unpack the mysteries and metaphysics of horoscopes with our special guest, writer and astrologer Elissa Ball. First, we discuss the most recent Democratic Debates and assign an astrological sign to each of the candidates based on their personalities (the fire of Tulsi! The turmoil of Mayor Pete! The deliberate conviction of Liz!). Then we chat with Elissa about why people seem so drawn to astrology right now, what kinds of things she helps people deal with, and how it can help with relationships.

Follow Elissa on Twitter @ElissaBall and Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/htdtarot/

Got something to get off your chest? <itunes:summary>In a world full of frustration and discontent, one thing is for sure - folks sure do love astrology right now.

Housing (w/ Calvin Jones of Tech 4 Housing)

In this episode of non-stop deep sighs, Katie and Allison are joined by Calvin Jones of Tech 4 Housing to review the incredibly important topic of Housing. First, we discuss the most recent democratic debates and why the media is letting Joe Biden off the hook, and then rant about SNL casting VERY racist comedian Shane Gillis, who is also VERY bad at apologies.

For our review, we unpack the complex and thorny issues of housing, the work being done by advocates to humanize unhoused people, why it’s so hard to get public policy passed to create missing middle housing in Seattle and other cities nationwide (spoiler alert white privilege!!), and how big tech has been implicated in the housing crisis and how tech workers could be part of a solution.

Recently, homelessness has been weaponized as a fear tactic both locally in conservative media Sinclair stations (Seattle Is Dying) and nationally on Fox News and by Trump, so it’s more important than ever to learn about how everyone should get involved with housing advocacy and discussing housing as a human right. Shout out to the #SEATTLEPROCESS and never forget, Safe Seattle Is A Hate Group!

This week, Katie and Allison join forces with Tiff Ta and Dana Wait of the podcast Death by Millennial to review the generation of 90’s nostalgia, avocado toast, and massive collective anxiety. First, Dana discusses dating apps and some themes of bad dating profiles (random puppies! tank tops!), and Tiff rants about an unfortunate run-in with an ignorant waiter and their racist microaggressions. Who are the best and worst millennials? Will the generation that created social influencers save the world or just let it burn? Find out on this overwhelmingly boomer-free episode!

<itunes:summary>#This #Podcast #Rules are we doing this right?!? This ep is chock full of hot takes as the #squad reviews the most recent 2020 Democratic Debates and the awful-yet-sort-of-fun social media platform, Twitter. Katie & Allison are joined by social media expert, writer, and Beto fan (he’s from Texas) Cody Permenter! They rant about the ridiculously centrist debate moderation, Medicare For All, which candidates did the best and worst, and which we want to get into a bed of lettuce with (you’ll just have to listen). Then they discuss what makes Twitter so malicious and if @jack will ever remove white supremacists, including their leader Donald Trump. They also chat about the history of the platform, their fave Twitter personalities, and what goes into managing a brand's account. </itunes:summary>

Big Little Lies Season 2 (w/ Tim Jolliff)

“It’s Midsommar on a plantation - and that’s Goop”

On this special “White Women Are Wildin’” episode, we are joined by Tim Jolliff to review Season 2 of Big Little Lies. First, we rant about the cultural appropriation brand farm of Goop, and a white woman who believes she invented the bonnet. Then we dive into the shallow, crashing waves of Big Little Lies and have a deep convo about abuse and victim blaming, why Meryl was truly so terrifying, if Renata was the breakout star of Season 2, and why Jane wore her Monterey Bay Aquarium polo to the courtroom.

On this episode we discuss:
Nylon recap of the ridiculous NiteCap bonnet
Why would anyone order a gordita when chalupas exist? Why are we still wearing pants?
